Remember that your dog doesn’t process thoughts the same way that you do. If you put this expectation on your animal, you will only wind up disappointed and frustrated. You will need to know how to treat your dog in the right manner so you can do some training.
If you are crate training your dog, you need to show them that this is where they will sleep. You should put their food in the crate when they eat, but leave the door open. This creates a positive association between good food and their new crate.
When crate training your new puppy, take it in small manageable steps so the animal can become accustomed to the changes easily. When they are comfy with the open door, try closing it and feeding them treats via the wires. Start small, like at 10 seconds per approach, and then gradually increase the times. If the dog shows signs of distress, you may be progressing too quickly.
When you start dog training, develop a verbal cue so that the dog knows precisely when they complete a command correctly. The word “yes” may serve as a good gap-filler in between the dog’s good behavior and the giving of the reward.
Early in your training, teach your new pup to “leave it.” This command tells him to drop the item and step away. You can use this command for a number of purposes. For example, it is used to prevent the dog from chewing on something or even to guide them out of harm’s way.
Use short training sessions. Since dogs have a tough time paying attention, you do not want to draw out the process. If more training is desired, work in some break times so your dog can play before continuing with training.
Use the same command for the behavior you want him to demonstrate. First, say his name, then the command. Get is attention by using its name and make it follow what you want it to do. Dogs know their name and will be attentive when you speak it.
As soon as you get your puppy, the first thing to teach him/her is their name; this will help build a bond between animal and human. Simply start by calling his name as often as possible. Once he learns his name, you can encourage him to come to you when called. It is a good idea to have your puppy learn these words first. Spend plenty of quality time with them, so that they know that they can trust you. When you set this trust early on, the puppy will be more open to the next steps in training.
Try to keep accidents at a minimum when toilet training your dog. Be able to tell when your dog has to go out. He could be snuffing, pacing or even whining. If you see your dog doing this, let it out! Grab his leash and bring him to the spot where he uses the bathroom. Reward your dog for getting your attention when he needs to go out. In time, the dog will ask when he wants to go outside.
